Why body image needs support
Body image needs support because it's harming and damaging peoples physical wellbeing. There are so many traumatizing and harmful impacts and effects that are damaging peoples physiological health. A major issue that accrues from peoples physiological health that is being damaged is becoming anorexic. So many people take and get addicted to diet products thinking that they are the solution to loosing weight, but most of the time that isn't the case. Diet products are falsely advertised majority of the time and cause damage to our health which has effects on the way we look at and think about our body image. Statistics show that body image concerns are not limited to young female. Males worry and are insecure about their body image. There are expectations for males on how they are supposed to look as well as females. You were born with all the confidence and self-esteem in the world. In the beginning, you accepted yourself fully; thoughts of yourself stopped at “I am” and only later grew into, oh, say, “I am terrible because I can’t do anything right.” These doubts are often acquired through social media sites . Any doubts ,judgements or fears you have about yourself were learned over time – they are not the truth; they are mental constructs. All ages need support when the problems with body image arise.
Body image has become a serious health issue affecting many aspects of a persons life. Mental health treatment can be costly to the individual as well as jeopardising employment prospects. Government support is critical for these people.
Community health support service providers are also under stress.
There are many ways that support can help overcome the body image problem for the individual and the community.
The need for support for young people at schools to overcome lack of attendance, bullying, underachievement is very important. Programs and workshops supplied by the Butterfly Foundation to schools help provide positive self-esteem , information on nutrition and physical activity and reduce the impact of body dissatisfaction.
The mental health support is also available from the Kids Help Line and Headspace . Culturally appropriate support is necessary for Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander young people who through the youth Mission Australia youth survey identified body image as their second most concerning issue ahead of mental health.
